How a method feeder mix should work: even dampening, binding in the feeder, breakdown on the bottom and adjustment for depth and casting distance.

A method feeder mix needs to mould cleanly, withstand handling and casting, then release around the hookbait after reaching the bottom. If it is too dry, it falls away too early. If it is overwetted, it remains compact for too long. Both the recipe and bankside preparation affect the result.
Every fraction has a different job. Fine particles create cloud and binding, while coarser particles add structure and food value. Heat-treated cereals, oilseeds, meals and aromatic ingredients must be balanced for the intended use and preparation method.
Add water in several stages and mix thoroughly each time. Allow the mix to absorb moisture before making the final adjustment. Pouring all the water in at once creates lumps and uneven binding. The exact amount also changes with raw-material moisture and weather.
Compress the filled feeder and immerse it in a container or shallow water. Check whether the mix survives handling and when it begins to open. Deeper water and a longer drop may require more cohesion than a shallow swim.
